Historical Significance of Republic Day of India

The Government of India Act (1935) has been replaced as governing document by Constitution of India on 26 January 1950, the day honored as 'Republic Day of India'. On this day at 10:18am Constitution of India came into force whereas Dr. Rajendra Prasad swore as the first President of Republic of India at 10:24am.
There are lot of historical significance and unknown facts behind this day of celebration: Indian constitution is the longest in the world. Writing the constitution was not simple task. The Assembly gathered for 166 days that was spread over 2 years, 11 months and 18 days before the final version was formed. There are just two original copies of the Constitution in the country written in Hindi and English. They have been preserved in helium-filled cases in the Parliament of India.
